Run Wolves, Run!

On Saturday 8th April 2017 a team of 23 brave Thomas Legal and Equilaw Staff will be taking part in a gruelling 10K (more than 6 miles!) cross-country obstacle course and we need your help to raise money!

What are we doing?

We are taking part in the WOLF Run, which stands for Woods, Obstacles, Lakes and Fields. It is a 10 kilometre course over the Warwickshire countryside and will cover hill running, very cold lakes, between 25 and 30 natural and man-made obstacles and lots and lots of mud! The run will be a real challenge – not only of our mental and physical abilities but also a test of our team work. We will be working as a ‘Wolf’ in a ‘Pack’ and will need to work together to get everyone over the line at the end.

But it sounds horrendous- why are we doing it?!

A good question that we have already asked ourselves! We are doing this in the hope that you will be generous and dig deep to sponsor us to run the course. 100% of your donations will be sent direct to The Hollie Gazzard Trust, which is both Thomas Legal’s and Equilaw’s nominated charity for 2016/17.

Hollie Gazzard was sadly killed in 2014 as a result of domestic violence in her relationship. She was only 20 years old. The Hollie Gazzard Trust was set up in her memory to do many things based around Hollie’s life and to bring something positive from her horrific death.

Among many things, the Trust supports young people to help achieve their dreams and ambitions by sponsoring and supporting them through further education projects. It also works alongside other organisations such as Increase the Peace and the Gloucester Domestic Abuse Support Services to increase awareness of the risks of domestic violence in a relationships and to help young people who have been subject to domestic violence realise that they can get help and they are not trapped. The Trust assists with providing programmes of support to 13-19 year olds to help them understand how to avoid abusive relationships, how to exit abusive relationships safely and how to manage their personal lives when exposed to domestic abuse and peer pressure in adult relationships. Finally, one of its key projects is the Hollie Guard. This is a fantastically clever app which is linked to a smart phone and can be downloaded by anyone. If the user feels they are in a potentially concerning situation, they can launch the app. A simple shake of the screen will generate an alert which will be automatically sent to the emergency contacts which the user pre-sets. The alert will provide the location of the user to the emergency contact, as well as record sound and video of an incident if necessary, potentially saving lives.

The Hollie Gazzard Trust is a registered Charity and relies solely on donations and support from the wider community. We are proud to be supporting them this year to help better the lives of young people in our local area. By running the WOLF Run we hope to smash our fundraising target but we can’t do it without your help.
